Les Ambassadeurs, an evening of luxury*

To dine in Place de la Concorde at the Hôtel Crillon gives one a taste of how the other half lives. You would have to search far and wide to find a more luxurious dining room. The welcome and the service are worthy of a Michelin star.
Shame about the misprints on the menu, one does expect excellence in all areas, including spelling.
Young chef Christopher Hache took over from Jean-François Piège in 2010 having worked with Éric Fréchon at the Bristol so it goes without saying that the cuisine will be modern and inventive.
We went for the 150€ menu (which cost 90€ with the 40% reduction from La Fourchette) but you’ll be pleased to hear that there are cheaper menus, particularly at lunchtime.
To start we had green asparagus, scrambled quails’ eggs, stuffed baby cabbage, all beautifully presented. The braised Landais duck foie gras is served from its hermetically sealed pot with ceremony.
The mains included free range Patis chicken with a morel glaze, potatoes Maxim and a confit leg which is unusually copious for a restaurant of this type.
You’ll be blown away by the upside-down lemon and strawberry tart, topped with a strawberry which you will discover is actually made of ice cream.
We would like to higlight the two genuine masterpieces of the evening: the petit pois and mint appetizer and even more so the Baba Cube dessert (poached in citrus, orange carpaccio, coconut sorbet). Both were as visually impressive as they were delicious.
Please note: some of the items on the menu use only seasonal, organic, locally produced or fair trade ingredients.
