Fogon, luxury tapas

To find a good tapas restaurant in Paris is quite an achievement. Fogon is a good choice, without the ambiance of a tapas bar in Barcelona!

A rather hushed, calm and discreet place, it proposes a menu of paella and tapas which, lo and behold, is not the one from our childhood, where every ingredient simmered with the others for hours. The chef Alberto Herraiz argues that that is not the real paella. Thus, he proposes a menu with 6 or 7 different “rices”, each one having its own flavour: scampi, vegetables, ham… This is, for sure, quite far off from what we had in mind: it is more refined, or rather tasteless as some may say, and certainly quite different.

Still, we claim that we love to come to Fogon for its tapas. They change monthly and are well presented and pleasing: that is what we are looking for in a tapa after all! You can come upon a good little gazpacho, crystallized spareribs à la fig, a red-mullet snack with acorn or even some prawn reinterpretations.

The atmosphere is really accomplished, being modern and timeless at the same time, and pretty pure. Amazingly, the cutlery is arranged inside each table’s drawer.
